Purpose: To offer a broad range of information on the subject of bilingual education in order to objectively examine the controversial debate with an understanding of the pros, cons, and reasons for or against bilingual education.

This website provides information on the controversial topic of bilingual education in American schools.  It gives background information starting with a brief history of bilingual education policy.  The webpage looks at the different types of bilingual education in general ways to give an overall understanding of the variety of practices found under the term “bilingual education.”  The information on classroom policies and the affect on students sets up the varying voices that are included on the webpage, and the main points of the bilingual education debate.  The debate covers the opposing viewpoints and reasons for these viewpoints between those in favor of bilingual education and those in favor of an English only approach.  To find out more information on bilingual education, see the links page or resources.
